Recently, the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences released the latest research results, reporting for the first time the discovery of two new species of armored prehistoric fish 400 million years ago in Jiangxi, named “Junqing Qingshuiyu” and “Hedgehog Anjiyu” , represents the oldest and most primitive fossil record of euarmored fishes to date.

Armored fish is a jawless fish unique to East Asia. It is currently only found in China and northern Vietnam. It is a fish with strong indigenous colors.

It is reported that, in addition to the basic groups (including Xiushuiidae, Hanyangidae, and Dayonidae), the armored fish subclass is mainly divided into three monophyletic groups – the euarmored fishes, the multibranchial fishes and the southern Chinese fishes. .

This time, the research team newly discovered the Junqing Qingshui fish in the Qingshui Formation of the lower red layer in northwest Jiangxi. It belongs to a new genus and species in the family Euphoraidae.
